God is Rubber, You are Glue (How to Get Rich)
Hello My Friend,
“In a word, man must create his own essence: it is in throwing himself into the world, suffering there, struggling there, that he gradually defines himself.
~ Jean-Paul Sartre
“One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful.”
~ Sigmund Freud
Why is money considered by most to be the greatest proof of success? Money? Really? The transient, ephemeral, colored paper? OK, sure, we can go a step deeper and look at what money represents as a tool, but even still it’s just a tool. What good is a tool if it can’t fix a problem?
I know some may say that money is a form of energy and having a lot of energy is good – but money is still just a representation of energy and if you don’t know how to use energy correctly then chances are you will misuse your energy in ways that don’t benefit you. Therefore money won’t lead to success, and it still can’t fix your problems.
“Oh, Rev. Shakes,” I hear you say, “You’re so full of shit. You’re just saying this stuff to justify being poor. You want to convince people that they should be satisfied with being broke and that they just need to ‘find God’ instead, right? and then everything will be hunky-dory, is that it? That’s stupid and you know it!”
But that’s not what I’m saying. What I’m telling you is that money is a good thing that can be used in lots of ways to better your life IF you can find a God. This is the vital step that has to be taken before you can really start using money (or anything else) to your great advantage. Once you get a God and you figure out who you are and why you’re here, then you can (if you want to) make as much money as you’d like and live the high life with your fancy houses and luxurious yachts. In the meantime (while you’re figuring out how to get a God) money will just be a temporary fix to patch up the holes in your life.
It’s the same with relationships. How many people do you know that are lonely? Sure, they probably know a lot of people, have dozens or even hundreds of friends, associates and others within their social circles – so why are they lonely? Some people date and date and date, and still they can’t find the ‘right one’ to settle down with. Why? It’s because they don’t know who they are, so they can never really know anyone else, because to know someone is to know them in relation to yourself…and you don’t know who you are.
The only way you’re going to figure out who you are is in your relation to God. You can’t be defined by anyone or anything else. Sure, you can compare and contrast yourself to everyone else, but everyone else is just a manifestation of who they are in relation to God and if they don’t have God, then the comparison is pointless. It’s pointless anyway because we are all at various points along the path of our evolutionary journey towards realization and fulfillment as a manifestation of God, and so as you feel about anyone else is how you feel about yourself. And, if you don’t see other people and feel some sort of communion, connection, and unity with them, then you won’t be able to have that communion with God…because God is the One-ness of All - and if you don’t recognize beauty there, then you’re just not ready to see it yet and you’ll have to stay in your dark, miserable corner until you the day that you can. Hopefully, it’s not too long.
As the band, the Scorpions, put it in the song ‘Rhythm of Love,’
“The rhythm of love
Is the heartbeat of my soul.
Let us find together
The beat we're looking for.”
People who are truly and sincerely happy – probably like the ones that you most admire and respect – don’t rely on money or relationships for their happiness. They have discovered the ‘secret’ that makes their life complete with our without all the typical accessories that most of us think are required before happiness can come.
So how do you figure out who you are in comparison to God? Well, the first step is figuring out what God is – not who God is, but what God is. A lot of people get tricked into believing that God is a dude in the sky, or some kind wrathful figure that judges humanity and rewards the good ones and punishes the bad ones. But that’s not God at all. God doesn’t judge, It simply reacts, or reflects what is.
A saying commonly used by kids when they are trying to rise above the nonsense of arguing with someone, and they want to express their lack of willingness to fight whomever it is picking on them, goes like this: “I am rubber. You are glue; whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you.” Well...this is God.
This is one of the best representations of God ever. God is rubber and you are glue. Whatever you say, think, feel, or do will always bounce off of God and stick to you. And if you keep thinking and doing a bunch of negative stuff, well then, that’s what you’re stuck with. Some people call this ‘Karma,’ but karma simply means ‘action, work, deed; fate,’ – which is the same things as the ‘rubber and glue’ principle. Whatever you do, is coming back to you.
You know, there’s a great song from the band Mother Love Bone that relays this idea in a more poetic form with these beautiful lines:
“I’ve been talking to my Altar
Said life is what you make it
And if you make it death
Well, rest your Soul away.”
God really is this simple. Life really does work on such super-basic principles but most of us don’t want to accept the simplicity of life, and we try to make it more than what it is. And that’s a fatal mistake. Hope’s for dopes, man. Let’s make this real.
To think that you need anything beyond what you already have before you can experience a full and complete life is nonsense. Sure, you have to start somewhere and maybe you’re at the very bottom right now, but how can you get to the top if not by starting from where you are right now? And right now you have the choice to focus on and conjure positivity or negativity – and that’s where it all starts. That is the beginning of changing from who you are to who you want to be. It’s that simple.
That’s the beauty of success – the struggle, the challenge. If not for the struggle, then what use is the reward? How would you recognize a reward if not for the struggle of overcoming your obstacles and mastering your fate? If you have all that you want right now and are completely and totally satisfied, then you might as well just quit. But only ‘losers’ quit. ‘Winners’ always want more, not for the sake of having more, but for the sake of becoming more of themselves and growing richer in love, gratitude, beauty, joy, abundance, and their ability to create. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with tangible items. The greatest success come from knowing thyself; self-realization.
Yeah, it can be a real drag to get the ball rolling; to start from ‘nothing’ and work your way up, but that’s the way it has to be. Otherwise you simply exist and you put yourself at the mercy of your current circumstances until you die.
For those of us who want to live, we must realize that we are One with God, and in that realization we will know that we have all of the power of the Spirit that is the power behind all things, the ‘whatever It is’ that constitutes the power of awareness; that which allows each of us to know that I Am. What is this thing you call a body doing in this thing you call a life in this place you call the world existing in this so-called reality? Is it all just a dream inside a dream inside a dream?....Well, who’s dreaming? What is dreaming? Are we the dream or are we the dreamer? Are we the created or are we the creator?
Sure, money and fame may seem to be the ultimate goal in our modern age but who gives a fuck if you don’t know who you are? Maybe a lot of so-called ‘bad’ people get the superficial niceties of lots of money, fast cars, and big houses, who cares? Doesn’t matter who gets them or doesn’t get them because it will mean nothing at the last breath, anyway. Let’s all get filthy rich with worldly stuff - so what? Maybe laying on a pile of money is good for the Soul, who knows? Who cares?
To obtain true success you must realize that your conscious awareness of being is God, and God’s name is I Am, and only through the struggle of coming to understanding that name will you ever know and believe that you have the power to create the life you desire now, and to ensure a glorious existence beyond this life – and that, my friends, is priceless.
Until we meet again, my friend, think good thoughts.
All my love,
Rev. Shakes Spear
