Raw Poetry by Rev. Shakes Spear
Is It In? (Lick, Swirl, and Push)
Scenes from a body; memories that I can’t call mine.
I guess that used to be me, but that was once upon a time.
The places that it took me, the sights that it did show...
I tried to make a story of it, but what it means, I don’t know.
I guess I chose the left and rights, the up and downs,
and neither.
I had a date with Ugly Fate, but I refused
to meet Her.
I called Her with a fake excuse, but She’s not dumb, of
course She knew.
I’ve heard rumors of a Truth
(whispering since my youth)
that will set my hell’d Soul free
If I’ll just
let Beauty be.
Oh, what a monumental task,
it almost seems too much to ask.
What will it take for me to give
up the things I love to live?
What must I quit,
cut, and sacrifice
to finally know I AM inside?
She called me back, She called my bluff. I knew She wasn’t dumb enough.
So, I guess I’ll meet Her for a drink, hear what She has to say. I think
She might fuck me, if I ask - (She’s been known as loose and fast).
But is it even worth the time? She can’t even blow my mind.
We agreed that I'd get Her off with my fingers
and my thumb.
Oh, no, I couldn't fuck her, it was hard enough
playing dumb.
I licked and swirled and pushed in one, then two, and by the
third she blew.
I grunted to Her somber Truths
(my fingers wet with Ugly’s juice)
that would set Her Future free
If She could
let Beauty be.
"What the fuck did you just ask?!
Please, shut your mouth and squeeze my ass."
"What will it take for you to give
me two more fingers? Make a fist."
"Now, if you'll spit,
flick and ‘roll the dice,’
and slow knuckle-fuck my 'AM' inside.”
Scenes from a bad play; so many god-forsaken lines.
I guess I played a big part, but that was once upon a time.
The faces that mistook me for the man who gave that show...
When they met me after backstage, who was who were we to know?
I guess I said a thing or two to keep them all slight-
ly amused,
but I wonder if’twas me or them or none or both of us
being used.
I smiled and waved, and signed my name, for what else was a
boy to do?
Memories fade like half-held Truths
Not strong enough to stand as proof.
Bright Futures trample History
If you will
let Beauty be.
Look, I’m not here to fist your gash,
so I’m gonna have to ask:
What will it take for you to give
A fuck about the life you live?
Imagine it:
You can love your life
When you know 'I AM' inside.
